Crowns, or caps, are made of porcelain and/or metal and are placed over a
fractured tooth to protect and restore the function of the tooth. Applying a crown requires that
Dr. Anderson reshape the damaged tooth. Next, an impression of the tooth is made. A temporary crown is placed over the tooth during the period it takes to manufacture the permanent crown. Then Dr. Anderson will carefully evaluate the bite, make adjustments and permanently cement the crown in place.
Bridges are used to replace missing teeth. Bridges are secured in the mouth with crowns applied to the teeth adjacent to the tooth which is missing. Bridges help prevent the teeth surrounding the missing tooth from drifting out of position. Bridges also restore the chewing function that has been lost.
A bridge is started by Dr. Anderson reshaping the teeth on either side of the missing tooth to prepare them for crowns. An impression is made of the area, and a temporary bridge is put in place. After the permanent bridge has been made. Dr. Anderson will skillfully make any needed adjustments to the bite and then permanently cement the bridge in place.
